2009 Mason Arts Festival
The Mason Historical Society was honored to be included once again this year at the  Mason Art Festival.
Our display included several museum pieces along with borrowed art.  Pieces from the museum were an oil painting of Jack Nicklaus Golf Course and watercolor of a Red Mill by Donna Beavers, oil paintings of Don and Mary Snider's house and the Alverta Green Museum by Jeanne Harpen, watercolors of the Alverta Green Museum and Snider Road Sunflowers by Dolores Wilt.   Al and Helen Voorhis allowed us to borrow a a painting of the Voorhis Farm house on Tylersville Road by their daughter Elaine Voorhis Luttrell.  Frances Gilbert lent  four of the wooden building replicas cut by Bill Gilbert and painted by Jeanne Harpen.  Also, she allowed us to display a large painting from the 1850's painted by Mason resident David Bennett.  The background of this painting was copied from a postcard of a scene near London, England.  The foreground included a young lady, Louisa Muncey Gray (Bill Gilberts' Great Grandmother) who came from England in 1851.  Bennett  painted the wings and backdrops for the stage at the Opera House located above the Fifth Third Bank building.
Thank you to the Mason Art's Council for allowing us to show Mason's history through its' art.

$1,500 Donation

We are truly grateful to the American Legion Post 194, a Lifetime member of our Society, chose us as the recipient of a $1,500 donation.
Society President Judy Cox is shown accepting the check from Post Commander, John Looker during the January 26, 2010 board meeting.
Donations such as this are greatly needed and certainly help us to continue our work towards fulfilling the "Purposes of the  Society".

No Cooking Tonight!

What better way to raise funds than to go out to eat!  All you have to do is dine at a local restaurant on the designated night  with a coupon we provide.  The Mason Historical Society will earn a percentage of the sales for the evening.  We have tentative plans for a weeknight in April.   More details coming soon!

This is a great opportunity to have non-members participate, so bring your friends and neighbors!

Looking for Mason Composite Graduation Photos
Many of you may remember the Composite Graduation photos hanging in the halls at Mason Central.  Many or these photos, from the 1920's and beyond, are now prominently displayed in the halls of  Mason High School.  Over the years, some photos have been damaged or lost. We need graduation photos for the class beginning in 1886 to 1919 also, 1922 and 1924. If you have any of these photos, or know someone who may, the historical society and the high school are working cooperatively to complete this project.  We would only need to borrow the photo, it would be scanned into the computer and enlarged to match the others.  Contact the Historical Society at 513-398-6750 and ask for Sherri.
